What Have I Been Up to Lately?

Writing, writing, writing!! I'm having a blast working on my current novella. Oh, how I love writing novels! I've been doing it for 19 years, and it's truly my fav literary form. Because of that, I know I've been rather quiet this month. I'm sorry. But now you know why. I've just been having too much fun working on this new book! Okay, here's an update so far. The first 1000 words of this new novella have already been entered in several competitions. Winners, finalists, and the short list should be announced by late summer and early fall. This week I'm working on the next section of the book. Hopefully, I'll finish that in a few days. My plan is for this new novella to be chapbook-size like DOG DAZED. But I'm only halfway through at this point, so that could change. It all depends on what my characters want. And you know me. My characters rule! Now for the big question. What's this new book about??? Well, if you enjoyed DOG DAZED, you're ...

My Short Story "Blue" Featured in "Moss Puppy Magazine"

Last week my short story BLUE appeared in Issue 2 ("Puppy Love") of "Moss Puppy Magazine." And what a big, gorgeous issue it is!   Many thanks to Melissa Martini (EIC) and Katy Naylor (Fiction Editor) for loving this wacky, humorous story as much as I do and for giving it such a beautiful home! Click the link below, and you can read the entire issue on PDF if you like. Or you can skip to page 120 and read my story. I have to say I had a blast writing this story, my first featuring a Chihuahua as one of the main characters. In fact, I had so much fun writing this story (and my latest novella DOG DAZED) that I couldn't stop. Currently, I'm several thousand words into my next novella, and yes, there's an adorable Chihuahua in this one too!  What can I say? I'm hooked on this breed. Chihuahuas are adorable!! Enjoy and happy reading! Issue 2: Puppy Love | My Site (mosspuppymag.wixsite.com)

New Book! DOG DAZED: A NOVELLA

Image
Well, now you know why I've been quiet for the last month. I've been finishing up my latest novella. And today was launch day!!! I'm thrilled to announce Kittyfeather Press has published my latest novella, DOG DAZED.  Yes, I've gone to the dogs. lol!!   This is my funniest, wackiest novella yet. Meet Marcie, a cat lover who has never liked dogs, never wanted a dog, still doesn't like dogs, still doesn't want one, yet ends up rescuing an adorable little Chihuahua in the park, a dog no one else wants either. And she's not adjusting well to the "dog ownership" learning curve. No, not at all. lol!! Because DOG DAZED has been published as a chapbook, it is not available on Amazon. However I do have plenty of signed copies, and would be thrilled to send you one. If you live in the US just send a check or money order for $10.00 made payable to "Laura Stamps" to: Laura Stamps, P.O. Box 212534, Columbia, SC 29221-2534, and I'll mail a copy t...

An Interview With Laura Stamps (North Carolina Writers Network)

This month I was interviewed by the very sweet and talented Joan Leotta for her North Carolina Writers Network group. I received two sets of questions: one from Joan and one from the members of her group. You'll see both here, as well as my answers to all these questions. Enjoy!   An Interview with Laura Stamps   North Carolina Writers Network   ****** Questions from Joan   1.) Please tell us a little about yourself. Where did you grow up? When did you start writing? Currently, I live in Columbia, South Carolina. But I grew up in Dalton, Georgia, a small town in the Appalachian Mountains of north Georgia (about thirty minutes south of Chattanooga, Tennessee). I majored in fine art in college and had been winning awards for my art since elementary school. After high school, I attended Dalton Junior College for two years and then transferred to the College of Charleston, which is how I ended up in South Carolina. I had been selling my paintings in galleri...
